         Cake Cutting Ceremony

The wedding cake’s first appearance in history appears to be early Rome where a thin loaf of bread was broken over the bride’s head at the end of the wedding ceremony to symbolize fertility. The earliest appearance of the modern day “tiered” wedding cake is during the Middle Ages in England, designed after the spire of St. Bride’s Church. The cake cutting is done in accordance with your catering plans. If you are having a sit down dinner, the cake cutting should be done while salad is being served to give the catering staff enough time to plate the cake which is most likely served as dessert. If you are having a buffet, since you always eat first along with the wedding party, the cake cutting can be done after you finish your meal. This will still give the catering staff enough time to plate the cake for the guests. The toast is generally done in conjunction with the cake cutting, or the toast is done right after the grand entrance. It is generally accepted that both the Best Man and the Maid/Matron of Honor offer a toast. It is also a good gesture during the toast that the Bride and Groom get on the microphone as well, to thank all the guests for coming personally. We can thank the French for originating the “Toast”. Bread was put at the bottom of the wine goblets, and the good toasters would drink the beverage down to get to the “toast”.

Grand March and Bridal Party Dance

The Grand March is done by gathering your bridal party at one location and everyone would line up as if they would be walking up the aisle in the church. We will announce the names of your bridal party as they walk to the dance floor. Once on the dance floor, you can choose them to either wait for the rest of the group or start a “bridge”, (couples face each other, hold and raise hands, and form a line, awaiting your arrival. You then travel under their raised hands). Each couple can embrace you and give you their blessing for a happy life, or you can travel to the end of the line. After you have reached the end of the line we then go into the Bridal Party Dance. This can be done anytime in the evening, you just let us know when.

The Bouquet Toss

The Bouquet Toss Originated in England where it was believed that a bride could bring good fortune to any spectator that could grab one of her flowers, or a piece of her dress. To ensure that brides got away with their dress intact, the Bride, began to simply toss her bouquet to the spectators and of course if a woman caught it, it was believed that she would be the next to marry  The bouquet toss is done around 2.5 hours into the reception, usually after a good dance set. We ask you in planning meetings how you want this event conducted. We generally call “all single ladies to the dance floor. The groom will spin the bride, and at the count of three the bride will throw her bouquet to the single ladies anticipating the catch of the bouquet. The music you choose for this event should be a fun song that you and your friends enjoy.

 The Garter Toss

The garter toss tradition dates back to medieval times where the drunken male friends of the groom would take “liberties” with the new bride. Around the 14th century, it became customary for the garter to be tossed to the male guests of the wedding (instead of the afore mentioned liberties). The Garter Toss is done right after the Bouquet Toss. We get the single guys on the dance floor. The Bride now has her chance to spin the Groom in circles and at the count of three the Groom will toss the garter over his shoulder to his friends and guests. If there are no single men present, we can call all married men onto the dance floor, the garter is tossed, and the catcher is encouraged to put it on his wife when they get home that evening. The songs below are suggestions. Your choices of a different song(s) are welcomed.
